How To Get There

Torbay is at the end of the A380, which in turn, is at the south end of the M5. It couldn't be simpler!

When To Dive

All year round! The water in winter will usually get down to about 8 degrees and in the summer up to 17, though colder and warmer conditions are not uncommon. Around May we have a plankton bloom which will reduce visibility to zero but it doesn't hang around for long.

Many of the shore diving sites are best done at high water as you will have a more comfortable dive, see more life, and not have to walk over exposed and slippery rocks.

Torbay is a busy bay with boating enthusiasts so an SMB is recommended for all dives/snorkels.

When Not To Dive

Torbay faces due East, so an Easterly wind of force 3+ will blow the bay out everywhere. As the bay itself is 4 miles wide, a strong off shore wind will mean you won't be able to dive on the exposed coast but you will be able to find flat water on the opposit, sheltered side. For example a strong South wind will blow into Meadfoot, but Babbacombe and Brixham will be diveable.

Your best bet is to use the various webcams available, or better still to get on the ground and see for yourself, and always have a back-up plan!

Please Remember

These guides are just that, guides. It is up to you to properly plan your dive and check the weather. visibility, surface conditions and likely hazards yoursef before you dive. No responsibility will be taken for inaccuracies in our description of the sites mentioned in this website. That said we welcome feedback and please let us know if we've made any mistakes!
